There are numerous hotels, many that are part of large chains, which claim to be ADA compliant. However, once you investigate their sites while conducting a search for ADA compliant hotels, often the details about the various ADA required amenities are not made available on their web sites.
Here are tips about ADA Compliant Hotels when the information is not readily available:
1.) Contact the hotel directly and ask about specifics as to what amenities and services they provide for the disabled. Be specific as to your needs.
2.) Is their staff trained, at every level, to work with the disabled community. The purpose of this training is that the staff will understand the various limitations and will know how to assist, but most importantly react correctly.
3.) If pets are not allowed. Ask if service animals are permitted. This is one detail that is also being ignored when you look at these various hotels.
Remember, and ADA compliant Hotel has met specific standards as set forth by the American Disabilities Act. If their staff does not receive special training, or no pets also includes no service animals, you can be assured that they are not ADA compliant. Hotels are public facilities and are required to meet specific standards in order to be ADA compliant. It may be advantageous to check with the local or state Disability Rights Network in the area where you intend to visit prior to making reservations to get full details.
